The roof line of Green Dragon Farm's main house was still smoking early Saturday morning. "Our biggest obstacle last night was the fire lines froze" Chief Darrin Spaulding, Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department, said at 7:30 a.m. after having stayed on scene all night.

Green Dragon Farm, located at 43 South Mountain Road and owned by Alicia Jenks, was the scene of a five alarm fire Friday night. Eighteen area departments responded. No one was home at the time of the blaze. The flames were under control around midnight when most first responders began packing up, but twelve departments were still working until 3 a.m.

Route 131 was closed to through traffic Friday night as tanker trucks lined the road to supply water to a portable holding tank.
The main house is completed gutted. The upper floor collapsed. The firefighters were able to save the barn and ell. Fire control was hampered by the building's metal roof and asbestos shingles on the outer walls.

Ascutney and West Weathersfield Fire departments returned to the home early Saturday to cut open the roof ridge vent and put out the remaining embers.

No injuries were reported. "We were able to save the farm's chickens and cows" said Spaulding. One family cat is missing and one is believe to have died in the blaze.
