Weathersfield News August 26, 2015 Nancy Nutile-McMenemy photosbynanci@comcast.net What a great week. The summer is winding down and children in the area are starting to think about school and buses and classes and getting up early. There was so much happening this past weekend that I hope you and yours had a chance to get out and explore before the school bell rings.   I had a very cool visitor the other day, an American House Spider. Yes it's a little creepy. But I think it's also beautiful too. I attended the Front Porch Concert series finale Thursday night. One half of Moxley Union opened for Kaleo. Nathaniel and Tristan were great! More images of Moxley Union:  https://photosbynanci.smugmug.com/Moxley-Union Kaleo is a band from Iceland taking the United States by storm. Friday August 21, 2015 Woodstock VT Take a short drive up Hartland Hill Rd and you'll see an old red barn. You might think it's home to some dairy cows, maybe a horse or two. You'd be wrong. This barn is the new home of New England Falconry. Michele Losee and Jessica Snyder are the caretakers of a couple Harris' Hawks and an Eurasian Eagleowl. The women feed and train these birds and are available to give lessons to the public. You can sign up for a session where you'll experience handling and flying a trained harris' hawk while learning about falconry. For more information you can call 802.457.6621 or visit www.falconryatwoodstockvt.com . Weathersfield News August 19, 2015 Nancy Nutile-McMenemy photosbynanci@comcast.net It's harvest time and it's the hottest week of the year, Oh Boy! My tomatoes are just begging to be made into sauce but who wants to heat up their kitchen with temperatures in the 90s. I guess I just have to bite the bullet and pick the tomatoes, basil, zucchini, peppers and yellow squash early in the morning and try to have the sauce done by noon before it gets too darn hot. I'll try to keep cool by telling myself that the Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting a super cold winter with a slew of snow (didn't we just do this!) And speaking of local harvests, I was lucky to cover the Naked Table Project Locavore Lunch in Woodstock on Sunday. They close down the Middle Bridge to traffic and transform it into a community lunch. Next year's table making weekend and lunch will be August 20-21 so mark your calendars. Sunday August 16, 2015 Middle Bridge Woodstock VT Entering into the 20th year of the Naked Table Project and it's 7th year hosting a locavore lunch on Middle Bridge, Charlie Shackleton and crew lined up the handcrafted tables, and one chair as over 100 people sat down to a lunch catered by The Woodstock Farmers' Market . The tables were adorned by ceramics created by Miranda Thomas, the other half of Shackleton Thomas in Bridgewater , and flowers donated from local gardens. Guest Speaker, Dartmouth College Professor of Environmental Engineering Design, Lee Lynd spoke about global (and local) sustainability in between the three course meal. The proceeds from the event will benefit Sustainable Woodstock . Mark your calendars, the next 'Naked Table Project' will be held August 20-21, 2016. Weathersfield News August 12, 2015 Nancy Nutile-McMenemy photosbynanci@comcast.net Another weekend in the books. I spent Saturday morning at the "Tatse of Woodstock." Elm Street was closed from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.. It was filled with food vendors, local crafters and music. Pentagle Arts hosted a "Chalk It Up!" street art contest and ArtisTree had face painting. The weather was perfect. And everyone had a wonderful time. The Harpoon Point to Point is supported by the  Harpoon Brewery,  the Point Radio Network , the

Tractor Trailer Rollover on Rte 131

Image
Monday August 10, 2015 Rte 131 Weathersfield VT A tractor trailer loaded with wood chips failed to negotiate the sharp corner, locally known as "Dead Man's Corner", on Rte 131 just east of Downer's Four Corners . The driver of the St. Onges trailer out of Newport Vt was uninjured.  Mark Heberts, a DMV Truck Enforcement officer said, after checking for mechanical defects, that the driver probably took the corner too fast and with the load he was carrying just tipped over. Hebert will be inspecting the truck and the driver's log once the wood chips have been removed and the trailer towed. Officers on the scene estimate that Route 131 will be closed or down to one lane most of the day. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and detour using Amsden School Rd. West Weathersfield Fire Department was on the scene for most of the day. More images:  https://photosbynanci.smugmug.com/News-/Tractor-Trailer-Rte-131/ Tractor Trailer Overturned in We

Weathersfield News August 5, 2015 Nancy Nutile-McMenemy photosbynanci@comcast.net Already August, where has this summer gone. I still haven't finished weeding my perennial beds. I guess I'll tell them what I say to the TV each time a Red Sox game is on-"Wait 'Till Next Year!" I have continued to see some really good live music though.  Thursday night I saw The Bluegrass Gospel Project in Lebanon at the FREE Front Porch Concert Series on the Green (if you like country- The Shana Stack Band will be performing on Thursday Aug. 6.)  The Bluegrass Gospel Project More BGP images:  https://photosbynanci.smugmug.com/Bluegrass-Gospel-Project/Front-Porch-Music-2015/ Saturday night I saw/witnessed a most unusual, but extremely talented, band from Providence RI- Arc Iris at Billsville House Concerts in Manchester VT. The music was ethereal and the visual performance was electrifying or as my friend Dougie says "Mind Blowing!"
