Happy Thanksgiving folks. Ah, the start of the winter holiday season. Food, family, shopping, craft fairs, and lots of stress. One thing I try to tell myself this time of year is celebrate the true meaning of Thanksgiving-Give Thanks. I've made it through another year. Some of us haven't faired so well. This time of year brings joy to some but darkness to others and I don't just mean the early dark afternoons. Try to be aware of those around us who may not be celebrating they way we are. "Give" them your time by listening to them or just being with them. And "thank" them for being themselves. Try to reach out to people you may not other wise encounter in your normal daily lives. Visit a nursing home or elder care facility and just sit with someone. Visit the VA in White River Junction and say "thank you" to the veterans and their caregivers.Buy a toy and donate…

North Country Community Theatre presented Lee Blessing's "A Walk in the Woods" this past weekend at the Briggs Opera House in White River Junction. Set in the woods outside of Geneva Switzerland in 1988, the play focuses on final years of the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union The nuclear arsenals held by these super powers were threatening to destroy the planet. The play is a dialogue between negotiators for each country. The script focuses more on the frustrations felt by these two very different men than on the political issues going on in their respective countries.

Andrey Botvinnik (Brownsville's own Kevin Fitzpatrick-who designed the lighting for Pentangle's "Rocky Horror" and ArtisTree's "Laughter on the 23rd Floor") and John Honeyman (Alan Haehnel an English teacher living in Hartford) start out as potential enemies, even though Andrey tries to ge…

I had another great weekend filled with music and community theater. A friend hosts concerts in his living room and he's booked some pretty fantastic bands over the years.

This past weekend Doug and his family, Billsville House Concerts hosted Upstate Rubdown on Friday night. The music, especially the harmonies of the women were out of this world!

Saturday night Billsville House Concerts brought in Soyna Kitchell and HONEYHONEY.
We saw Soyna Kitchell open for Myra Flynn at the Briggs Opera House a couple of weeks ago, seeing her in someone's living room was very special.

"When In Rome" So much fun at the Lebanon Opera House #WhenInRome #jodipicoult #Ellen60 #TrumbullHallTrp #lohbackstage

November 15, 2015 Lebanon NH

Roman Gods and Goddesses took over the Lebanon Opera House this past weekend. New York Times best selling author, Jodi Picoult and her Trumbull Hall Troupe of talented Upper Valley teens performed the original musical "When In Rome" with all the money raised going to Upper Valley charities that help children: The Zienzele Foundation, Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHAD) and Upper Valley Haven.
Picoult and co-author Kyle van Leer took characters from Roman and Greek mythology and gave them personalities of today's celebrities. Venus was "Kardasian" like, Jupiter was a frat-boy playboy, and Pluto was transformed into a bad boy with a questionable past. The mortals were crafted to sound like feminists and hipsters. Psyche, the daughter of Emperor Julius Thousand Island enters carrying a sign demanding women in the House and Senate. Narcissus and Echo perform a song about taking a selfie "Won't You Take A Selfie." N…
