Dan Foster House Clean-up Day May 14
On May 14 from 8-10 am, the Weathersfield Historical Society will host the annual clean up day at the Dan Foster House. 

Please bring your own tools. There will be both indoor and outdoor work.
Items needed for the indoor clean-up include: dusters and dust rags as well as shop vacs and extension cords.

Outside equipment needed are garden tools and rakes as well as a tarp or two for for hauling branches. 

Fruit and muffins and coffee will be available. Volunteers are welcome for any amount of time they can donate.

Work Day at the 1879 Schoolhouse, also May 14
Friends of the 1879 Schoolhouse have scheduled a general work day for May 14th, from 9 a.m-3 p.m.. 

Please bring gloves, rakes, shovels, and work attire. Tasks will be mostly outdoors and include grounds work, painting, and some carpentry. Not to mention that it will be a nice day for a bit of long delayed community. 
Lunch will be served.

If you can make it, please contact Matt Keniston (norclime@tds.net) for a head count for lunch.

Final Tax Payment Due May 18
Final installment of taxes is due and payable at the Town Office by 4:30 PM on May 18, 2022.
Any installment not paid on or before the close of business at 4:30 PM on the due date will be subject to interest on the unpaid principal at the rate of 1% per month for the first three months and 1.5% thereafter per 32 V.S.A. §4873.
An 8% penalty on the unpaid principal will be charged if payment is not received in full on or before the close of business June 1, 2022 at 4:30 PM as provided by 32 V.S.A. §5136.

Outdoor after-school program in the works at Mt. Ascutney

A popular outdoors club for youths in grades kindergarten through six at the Albert Bridge School could transform into a licensed childcare facility for the after-school program, pending the approval of state licensing authorities and the local Development Review Board.

The Albert Bridge Adventure Club, a collaboration between the school and Ascutney Outdoors (AO), the organization that oversees diverse, year-round recreational activities at Mt. Ascutney is led by a part-time, contracted educator employed by the elementary school. The club has been operating after school for the past year on an informal, ad hoc basis under the tutelage of Emily Curtis-Murphy, an outdoor educator from Reading. The Albert Bridge School administration, Curtis-Murphy, and Ascutney Outdoors officials are currently working with the Bright Futures program of the Vermont Department for Children and Families at the Agency of Human Services to meet licensing requirements for a formal after-school program at Mt. Ascutney.

At the local level, the next step in the process entails a public hearing before the West Windsor Development Review Board (DRB) on Tuesday evening, May 10, when the DRB will vet an application for a conditional use permit to allow the outdoors-oriented after-school program to operate within the multi-use zone of the West Windsor Town Forest at the mountain.

Springfield Humane Society will be hosting a Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic for Cats and on May 24th. 
Sign ups are starting NOW, so do not delay, call today!! 
To sign up, please call 802-885-3997 with a debit/credit card to pre-pay for your spot. There is a 3.5% interest fee for the purchase. 
Pricing is as follows: Males: $60 Females: $70 Rabies: $10 (required unless proof of current vaccine)
Distemper: $10 (optional, but highly recommended. Will need booster 2-4 weeks later at your vet)
Microchip with registration: $25 (must have valid email address)
The clinic is located at the shelter, in their community room. 
You will receive drop off and pick up instructions upon signing up. They are taking extra precautions currently to keep everyone safe during the Covid-19 virus.

-All pets attending clinics MUST be in SECURE cat carriers. Please refrain from using cardboard carriers or mesh, collapsing carriers, as these tend to be less effective.

Ascutney Day Hike May 28 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Mount Ascutney State Park
After a 2 year break to keep everyone safe during Covid, Ascutney Day is back! Find your way to the summit of Mount Ascutney and ATA will be at the Stone Hut site with refreshments and camaraderie!
Choose one of the three base-to-summit trails to hike up on foot, or drive up the auto road and hike a short half mile to the picnic site. There will be a prize for the oldest and youngest hikers. Dogs welcome but should be leashed at the summit.

"Lace Up for Laura" 5K race Saturday, June 25 8:30 a.m.


The Lace Up for Laura Memorial 5k walk/run is a way to come together the last Saturday in June each year in remembrance of Laura Cody McNaughton who died in a tragic car accident on June 28, 2018.  It is intended to be a fun activity families can participate in together with runners and walkers of all ability. 

The event will consist of two races held on Saturday, June 25, 2022: an approximately 1/3 mile kids 12 and under fun run starting at 8:30 A.M. followed by a 3.1 mile (5km) race starting at 9:00 A.M for all ages and abilities. 

The starts for both races will be located near the intersection of Plains road and Reservoir road. 

The 3.1 mile race will be an out and back race on the scenic dirt road known for its lack of change in elevation. 

The kids race is at 8:30. The first 50 kids will receive custom wooden medallions, the adult winners and runners up in each age category will have custom medals again as well.

Proceeds from the Memorial run will benefit the Laura Cody McNaughton Memorial fund and its annual scholarship which will be awarded to a graduating senior who exemplifies Laura’s leadership and giving spirit, and, is pursuing further education and training in a field where these principles may be put into practice.

The Weathersfield School PTO will be providing a Snack Concession Stand at the home baseball and softball games this spring. 

They will be offering hotdogs, chips, sweet treats, popcorn, drinks, etc. Find their table behind the baseball field. 

They can accept cash and Venmo. The first games at our home field begin on May 2nd, and they will be ready to serve you.

Come hungry and help the PTO's initiatives to support students, teachers, and staff.

Beginning Thursday, January 13, the regular opening schedule of 2:00 pm-4:00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month will resume. 
 The Weathersfield Food Shelf is located in the 1879 Perkinsville Schoolhouse at 1862 Route 106 in Perkinsville. The Food Shelf has lots of good food to offer!

Starting April 1, 2022, registration for state clinics through the Health Department will no longer be available. We encourage you to get vaccinated through your health care provider, a pharmacy or anywhere you get other vaccines. 

The COVID-19 vaccine is still free at any location and widely available across the state, including second booster doses! 
Find a vaccine near you at Vaccines.gov.
Walk-in vaccine clinics are still being added regularly. See what's new in the list below!
If you cannot get vaccine through any of these options, call the Health Department at 802-863-7240 and select option 8.

Booster Update: On March 29, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized a second booster dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for people 50 years of age and older and certain immunocompromised individuals. COVID Cases in Vermont

Mt. Ascutney Hospital Open for Walk-Ins M-F 1-5 PM

Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center is now offering walk-in service on weekday afternoons for people ages 2 and older, according to a news release.

The visits are available for urgent, but non-emergency medical needs Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. Patients can check in at the hospital’s central registration, through the main entrance.

Some of the conditions appropriate for care through walk-in services are minor cuts and burns; urinary tract infections; strains and sprains; minor fractures; rashes; and ear, sinus and eye infections. In addition, X-ray and lab services are available on-site.

A nurse will be on hand to determine if a patient’s condition calls for transfer to the emergency department.
