Town Trivia Challenge Raises Money for the Library Children's Room

The 7th Annual Town Trivia Challenge was a huge success and raised $1351.25 for the children’s room addition at the library. Nine teams competed this year. Categories included town history, geography, spelling, current events alternating with sports, literature and the favorite, “Name That Tune.” John Arrison brought in an old Victrola and played many of the tunes. The Historical Society team won, the first team to receive a repeat win in the event's seven years. The Middle School team won the team with “Most Spirit.” The top fundraisers were Team School Board. The event was organized by the Library Fundraising Committee (Laurie Cobb and Cookie Shand), Patti Arrison (scorekeeper and writer of the literature questions) and Ginger Wimberg (MC and writer of other category questions). About 85 people attended the event on March 10 at the Weathersfield School.

Town news

Weathersfield Select Board and Town news: The select board met on Monday, March 19. The meeting packet may be viewed ONLINE. The draft minutes from the meeting may be viewed ONLINE.

There was discussion of this blog at the Monday night's meeting. Ms. Kelly Murphy noticed the use of an image of the town seal in one of my blogs and questioned its use. (See page 31-32/93 in the meeting packet.) To quote the meeting minutes "While the seal is seen as the official symbol of the Town, it is not trademarked and the Board must determine how it is to be used." The select board, in an unanimous vote,  went on to "To authorize the Town Manager to spend the funds to trademark the town seal."

They continued the discussion with a motion "To authorize the Town Manager to address any social media posts or other form of advertising or propaganda when it is presented in a way that depicts the Town as a participating party. Ms. Murphy asked that the Town of Weathersfield Facebook page be differentiated in some way from other Weathersfield pages."

Of note, the town seal is also used on another independent online blog: http://weathersfieldvermontnews.blogspot.com/ and on the independently published  Weathersfield Vermont Directory of Services.

In addition, many appointments were made to various town committees and positions. Congratulations to Rick Bates and John Arrison, they were appointed as the town's Weighers of Coal.
