The Weathersfield Food Shelf (WFS) announced that they will be changing their hours of operation. Beginning with the month of April, WFS will be open the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 1-3 p.m. WFS serves residents of the Town of Weathersfield and is in the 1879 Schoolhouse at 1862 Route 106 in Perkinsville. Donations of nonperishable food are always welcomed and may be dropped off at the facility during opening hours or placed in the collection box at Martin Memorial Hall. Weathersfield select board and town news: By now you know that the voters passed all articles on the Australian Ballot except for funding for the new municipal fire department and borrowing money for a new grader. The select board met to re-organize on Thursday, March 7 and to welcome newly elected members Dave Fuller and Mike Todd. Fuller and Todd join John Arrison, Dan Boyer, and Kelly Murphy. Weathersfield School news: Grade 8 Science Fair was held on Monday March 4. Three entries were awarded First Place ribbons: Skylar Thibodeau-How Effective is Reishi Mushrooms as a Homeopathic Remedy?; Madeline Hill and Bonnie Blake-Should the United States Ban Single Use Plastics?; Brody Perham and Layne Watkins-Can a Green Cleaning Product Work as Effectively as Those Containing Harmful Chemicals? Skylar, Madeline, Bonnie, Layne will be presenting their work at the Vermont State Science Fair on Saturday, March 30 at Norwich University from 9 a.m. -4 p.m.

In addition, three entries were awarded Honorable Mention: Mallory Martel-Do Our Middle School Students Follow a Healthy Diet?; Collin Lique-Does Vaping Do More Damage to Your Lungs Than Cigarette Smoke?; Kadence Brooks, Kaidance Craig, and Jezabella Martin-What Personal Care Products Contain Dangerous Toxins? Congrats to these budding scientists.

The school announced their annual Graduation Dance will be held on Friday, May 10 details to follow. Panther Cub Night will be held on Tuesday, May 28 5-6 p.m. in the two kindergarten classrooms. School report night will be Tuesday, June 4 5-6 p.m. in the AP room. For more information school news, please call the school at 674-5400.

Shamrock N’ Roll at Ascutney Outdoors, Saturday March 16 7:30-11 p.m. in West Windsor. Celebrate St. Paddy's Day on Mt. Ascutney with some singing and dancing to your favorite songs; wear something green to win some cool Ascutney Outdoors’ bling. Local DJ and karaoke. This is a BYOB event and bring snacks or food to share with others. The cover charge is $10.00 at the door.

8th Annual Town Challenge in Ascutney, Saturday March 23 at 7 p.m. at the Weathersfield School on Schoolhouse Road. The Weathersfield Proctor Library is hosting the annual Town Challenge featuring nine town teams representing boards, committees, school staff and students. Each team will answer questions in random order in seven trivia categories: Spelling, Town History, Current Events/Sports, “Name That Tune,” Geography, and Literature. Mexican Cooking Class in Perkinsville, Saturday March 23 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The Hidden Kitchen instructor Denise Atland teaches a hand on Mexican Cooking class. Menu includes: Tortillas, Refried beans, Baja fish tacos, Pork enchiladas sopapillaa served with local honey. $65 per person includes lunch and recipes. Call 802-263-9217 for reservations.

Mushroom Workshop in Hartland. Reservations are open for three one-day shiitake log inoculation workshops on April 6, 13, and 28. Each workshop includes hands-on learning, preparing and inoculating logs, and wood-fired pizza from the outdoor oven. Each participant takes home a log that will fruit in the 2019 season. These are free workshops, but space is limited so sign up soon. This outdoor activity incorporates science, agriculture, tool skills, new people, and FOOD. 1879 Perkinsville Schoolhouse Committee Seeks Volunteers. The 1879 Perkinsville Schoolhouse Committee needs willing hands to help with the ongoing task of renovating the 1879 Perkinsville District 1 school. No special skills are needed, and food will be provided. The next scheduled work dates are: April 13 and May 11 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.. Low cost spay/neuter clinics in Springfield. Springfield Humane Society is hosting low cost spay/neuter clinics in 2019: April 30, May 28, June 18, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept.24, Oct. 29, and Nov. 26 at the Springfield Humane Society, on Route 143. Cost is $50 for female cat and $40 for male cat. Weathersfield residents may be reimbursed up to $50 for the surgery with a limit of three pets per year. Get your SNAP form from the town office.
