I've always wanted to visit Scotland. Jay visited many years ago for a Fisheries Conference but I've never been so when we returned from our adventure in Ireland last fall we booked a spring trip to Scotland. My plan is blog a little each day to share our adventure with you through words and images. I hope you will enjoy the journey as much as we did, and perhaps decide to travel to Scotland to experience this wonderful country for yourselves. We booked our adventure with Go Ahead Tours (our third tour with them). The adventure we chose was Edinburgh and the Castles of Scotland . I fell in love with the castles and ruins we found in Ireland and wanted more. Our trip was from March 19-30 -and as we would find out-a little too early for a lot of things in Scotland. If you go, wait until after Easter! Our flight was non-stop on United Airlines from Newark to Edinburgh; returning from Glasgow to Newark. We still have so much snow in our front yard. I’m thinking it may be June before it’s all gone. The peppers and basil I started in my kitchen are beginning to sprout. That means it is time to start the tomato seeds. Spring is on the way, I just know it is. Fire at Weathersfield Inn- as reported on the West Weathersfield Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page. Saturday night 6:30 p.m. West Weathersfield Volunteer Fire Department was called to a chimney fire at The Inn at Weathersfield. Ascutney Volunteer Fire responded with mutual aid. The large, six flue chimney, with multiple cracks was smoking when the fire departments arrived. The Inn was evacuated. Green beer, corned beef and cabbage and lots of Éirinn go Brách (Ireland Forever!) I had a wonderful trip last fall to Ireland . I found the land-breathtaking, the food-very tasty and the people to be so friendly. On Tuesday, I saluted my new found friends of the Emerald Isle and I salute you gentle readers- Sláinte (Health!). Now we can all look forward to Spring which begins on Friday-The Vernal Equinox. Equal Day and Night; the days are getting longer until the Summer Solstice. March 13, 2015 Woodstock, VT Yoh Theatre Players present Animal Farm-A Fairy Tale and a Musical in two acts. After two months of rehearsals, the house lights dim and the stage lights go up on a farm in England . The original book was written by George Orwell 70 years ago and is still relevant today. Animal Farm is an allegorical and dystopian novel published in England on 17 August 1945. According to Orwell, the book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin era in the  Soviet Union . The original title was Animal Farm: A Fairy Story, though the subtitle was dropped by U.S. publishers for its 1946 publication and subsequently all but one of the translations during Orwell's lifetime omitted it. The following Officers were elected: John Arrison-Chair, Daniel Boyer-Vice Chair, C. Peter Cole-Clerk. deForest Bearse was elected Recording Secretary. The board voted to hold their meetings the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. (note time change from 7 p.m..) The Valley news was designated the Town's paper of record. Lynn Esty will represent the board at the Fire Commission meetings and Dave Fuller will represent the board at the Highway Committee meetings. Trustees of the Weathersfield Proctor Library -Nancy Nutile-McMenemy was re-elected to a three year term on the Board of Trustees and Roderick "Rick" Bates was elected to fill out the one year remaining on the five year term vacated by Trustee Chelsea Chase. Saturday March 7, 2015 Woodstock VT The Norman Williams Public Library Mezzanine was filled with music and a standing room only audience Saturday afternoon. Pianist Sherry Belisle organized the Piano Duet Concert, calling her on fellow pianists to play duets and even a trio as a fundraiser for the library. Some classical and some funny piano tunes were performed by nine talented musicians. Organizers hope to make this an annual fundraising event. Saturday March 7, 2015 Woodstock VT Sock Hop in Woodstock VT-you bet. Saturday night following a day in the sun and on the snow, The Special Olympics Vermont Winter Games athletes traded their snow suits for dance attire. The Woodstock Inn and Resort was transformed into a 1950s style Sock Hop and some of the athletes and coaches dressed the part. So you think you can dance...check these moves. Saturday March 7, 2015 Suicide Six Ski Area, Pomfret VT Athletes from all around Vermont gathered in Woodstock/Pomfret this past weekend to compete in the Special Olympics Vermont Winter Games . This year saw one of the largest fields yet, with over 400 Olympians competing Saturday and Sunday in Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding, Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing events. Lots of athletes brought home the gold and even if they didn't everyone had a great time!
