What a wild weekend we had last weekend. It felt like summer was back, especially on Sunday with temps. in the 90s. Not sure how long this hot, sunny weather is going to last; friends out west have been emailing me photos of snow on the ground. I do believe it's in our future too.
The town office will be closed Thursday, Oct. 5 for staff training and Monday Oct. 9 for Columbus Day.
Weathersfield School news: Tech Time is an afterschool program available for students in grades 6-8 from 3:30-5 p.m. at River Valley Technical Center in Springfield, VT. Programs begin on Wednesday, Nov. 1 and are free. Transportation must be provided by parent/guardian. Space is limited. Reminder no school on Monday, Oct. 9 it is a WSESU in-service day for teachers. The past month most of my focus has been on the 25th Annual Vermont 50 Mountain Bike or Ultra Run. Monday night, Sept. 18 was our final race committee meeting before the race. We gathered and put on old volunteer shirts for a group photo. Little did we know that it would be the last night we'd
be planning a race with our dear friend Lou Schmetz (fourth from the right). He passed away at his home in Windsor early Tuesday morning. Everyone who knew him was devastated. We still had to put on a race. So we all put on smiling faces and pushed ourselves through the weekend.
Saturday the Vermont 50 hosts a Kids Fun Race day, with bike rides and running races.
It's actually my favorite part of race weekend.

On Sunday the adults race on mountain bikes and their feet. The weather was brutal. But 653 mountain bikers and 146 runners completed the 50 mile course along with 22 relay teams. And 176 runners completed the 50 Km course. Race Results.

School Open House in Ascutney, Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5:30-6:45 p.m.. Parents and students can meet with teachers from 5:30 to 6:15 pm. At 6:15 Larry Dougher, WSESU Technology Director, will speak about PowerSchool electronic reporting system. Followed by Principal Oakman giving a brief overview on Proficiency Based Learning.

Veterans Chicken BBQ in Ascutney, Saturday, Sept. 30. Benefit for the Veterans Memorial Committee. Chicken dinners until they run out. Martin Memorial Hall.
Walk to School Day in Ascutney, Wednesday, Oct. 4. Students should meet at the Old Café De Sol at 7:30 a.m. (rain or shine) and walk the back way to the field across the school, where we will safely cross and head in to the building in time for announcements and breakfast.
Car Show in Ascutney Saturday Oct. 7 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The school PTA and 8th grade class will host their annual Car Show (rain date will be Oct. 8). A benefit for the PTA and 8th grade class trip. All vehicles of interest are welcome. Admission is by donation. Music, 50-50 Raffle, Food, and Refreshments. Awards and Door Prizes will be given out. Weathersfield Hikes: The final hike is Ascutney Mountain Saturday, October 7 9 a.m.
Weathersfield Food Shelf in Perkinsville every Thursday from 2-3 p.m. Route 106 at the old Perkinsville Elementary School.
Low cost spay/neuter clinics in Springfield. Springfield Humane Society is hosting low cost spay/neuter clinics: Oct. 24, Dec. 5 at the Springfield Humane Society, on Route 143. Cost is $50 for female cat and $40 for male cat. Weathersfield residents may be reimbursed up to $50 for the surgery with a limit of three pets per year. Get your SNAP form from the town office. Please call Springfield Humane Society for an appointment at 802-885-3997.
Valley Court Diversion Programs: Volunteers are needed in Weathersfield/Springfield areas to work with low level offenders in the community. The group meets once a month at the Springfield Police Department, your commitment will require about three hours a month. Training is provided.
