This year's White River Independent Film (WRIF) Festival wrapped up Monday night at Tupelo Music Hall in White River with the screening of "For The Love of the Music: The Club 47 Folk Revival." It is a documentary exploring the rich history of Club 47, the iconic 80-seat Cambridge, Massachusetts folk music mecca from 1958-1968. Narrated by Peter Coyote, it explores the influence the Club had on a unique group of folk musicians, from the evolution of the 60s folk revival to the singer-songwriter era. Featured are interviews with Joan Baez, Taj Mahal, Judy Collins, Tom Rush, Maria Muldaur, Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, Jackie Washington, Jim Rooney, Peter Rowan and many more. The film features previously unreleased audio recordings and photographs of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Eric Von Schmidt and new performances from the still-performing stars of Club 47 with today's emerging folk performers, as the folk process continues. Sunday evening the Norman Williams Public Library hosted its Annual Gala. The reception was held at the library in the mezzanine. The room was filled to capacity with people supporting the library. Guest Speaker, Andre Dubus III mingled with the crowd and signed copies of his books. The event moved to the Woodstock Inn and Resort for the dinner. Library executive Director, Jennifer Belton welcomed the group of 209 supporters (the largest to date) to the gala; introducing the Gala Committee, the Library staff and the volunteers. She then turned the podium over to Board of Trustees Chair, Jack McGuire. McGuire reminisced about the progress the library has made over the last few years-the implementation of "Wireless Woodstock" and turning the library into a true community center. April 23, 2014 Northampton MA Melissa Etheridge is on tour again. She's solo and working out material for her new CD, "This is Me." She stopped by the Calvin Theatre in Northampton MA last night for a 13 song set. Rumor has it that she was at the local 7/11 Store handing out concert tickets to some lucky patrons during the day. Surrounded by all kinds of guitars,a grand piano,and a smattering of lava lights, Etheridge welcomed the audience and reminisced about her first time in Northampton, an appearance at John M. Greene Hall at Smith College in 1989. This got a roar from the crowd. She opened with “Bring Me Some Water” and closed with "I'm The Only One." Her one song encore was "Like The Way I Do" that had the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs. It was a great show, much better than the Tanglewood show I saw last summer but the crowd tonight was really LAZY. I've never sat through a ME show before and was really annoyed...
