Melissa Etheridge Brings Her Solo Show to the Calvin Theatre

Melissa Etheridge is on tour again. She's solo and working out material for her new CD, "This is Me." She stopped by the Calvin Theatre in Northampton MA last night for a 13 song set. Rumor has it that she was at the local 7/11 Store handing out concert tickets to some lucky patrons during the day.
Surrounded by all kinds of guitars,a grand piano,and a smattering of lava lights, Etheridge welcomed the audience and reminisced about her first time in Northampton, an appearance at John M. Greene Hall at Smith College in 1989. This got a roar from the crowd. She opened with “Bring Me Some Water” and closed with "I'm The Only One." Her one song encore was "Like The Way I Do" that had the crowd screaming at the top of their lungs.
It was a great show, much better than the Tanglewood show I saw last summer but the crowd tonight was really LAZY.
I've never sat through a ME show before and was really annoyed to be told to sit and not dance. I guess you could say it was an older crowd but jeez...I'll have to think long and hard about attending the next round of New Enlgand shows.
