I'm training to run/walk the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in June. It's "virtual" this year but that works for me. I'm the Co-Race Director, so if the race was in-person, I'd but running around organizing and troubleshooting. So this year I can actually experience the "race."
I did a training hike yesterday with some friends in the woods around my house. 6.6 miles, elevation 900+ feet. It was a wonderful afternoon. The wildflowers are starting to come out.

Vermonters 16 years old and older can register for Covid vaccine appointments starting at 8:15 a.m. on Monday. Four entities are scheduling vaccine appointments: The Vermont Department of Health, Kinney Drugs, CVS and Walgreens.
Each has its own registration system. You may choose to schedule an appointment with whichever is most convenient. However, the Health Department has said you should not book an appointment on multiple sites — please pick one.

Mountain Bike Fest Returns to Ascutney Mountain
Press release:Following Vermont Governor Phil Scott's announcement that large events can be held during summer 2021, Mountain Flyer Magazine and Ascutney Trails are excited to announce FLOW STATE, the Vermont Mountain Bike Festival, July 30-August 1, 2021.
FLOW STATE is a three-day celebration of all things mountain biking at the Ascutney Outdoor Center in Brownsville, Vt. Set in the heart of Ascutney Trails' 35-mile network of singletrack, with access to an additional 20 miles of trail on private property, FLOW STATE will feature product demos, guided rides and clinics as well as camping, food trucks and beer, live music and more.
"Since we last hosted a mountain bike festival in 2018, our trail network has undergone a major renovation to enhance flow and increase signage to improve route finding," says Erik Schutz, president of Ascutney Trails. "We're stoked to show the mountain bike community our world-class trails."
"Vermont mountain biking is the best in the East, and the bike industry is taking note," says John Costello, Mountain Flyer events coordinator. "Plus, our ridership in the Northeast has exploded in recent years. It's time to bring a big festival back to the Green Mountains."
FLOW STATE organizers are formalizing plans, bike vendors, food trucks and sponsors for this summer's Vermont Mountain Bike Festival. Early festival pass sales will be available to select New England markets on May 5, 2021. All tickets and camping passes will go on sale May 21, 2021.

If you plan to go on more than one quest, you may wish to create your own “passport book” or field journal into which you will collect your stamp impressions.
You may also wish to create your own personal stamp so that you can leave your mark in each quest’s logbook.
If you are using one of the quests found online, simply print out the clues and the map and take it along with you, otherwise bring your quest book.
Just like any outdoor activity, be prepared for changes in the weather! It is important to bring a good map. Also bring a compass, a water bottle, snacks, and wear comfortable shoes. It’s always a good idea to carry a first aid kit if you will be out in the woods.

The Numbers
VT reported 138 new cases Friday, 67 on Saturday, and 149 yesterday, bringing it to a total case count of 22,016. There were 2 new deaths over the weekend, which now number 242, while 26 people with confirmed cases are hospitalized (down 1).
Windsor County gained 20 new cases and stands at 1,278 for the pandemic, with 60 over the past 14 days, while Orange County added 23 new cases and is at 682 cumulatively, with 111 cases in the past 14 days.
In town-by-town numbers reported late last week, Randolph added 12 cases over the week before, Bradford gained 10, Corinth rose by 9, Springfield added 6, Newbury 5, Killington 4, Fairlee, Hartford, Hartland, and Sharon gained 3 each, Chelsea and Thetford each added 2, and Bridgewater, Cavendish, Royalton, Strafford, Weathersfield, and Windsor each gained 1.

News About Remote Only for Next Year
At the start of the new school year this fall, only in person instruction will be offered at WS. Home Study is an option for families who follow the AOE guidelines, but a school sponsored remote option will no longer be available.
If you have children currently in Home Study and want to return to in person learning at school, please contact Laurie Brown at 674-2144, ext. 107, or at lbrown@wsesu.net so she can register your children for in person learning.
If you are currently enrolled in a remote option only and do not want to come back to in person learning, you may apply for a Home Study program with the state of Vermont and you will have to follow all of their requirements.
If your child is currently in remote only learning and you want them back in school for the fall, simply call the school to let them know.
Class lists and teacher assignments will be created in late May, so we want to make sure we know who will be returning and thus put them on a class list for the fall.
Please make sure to make this change by May 10th.
News from the School Counselor
With the weather warming up, students enjoyed lessons outside last week.
Our school counselor, Melissa Cole, brought students out to our new Pavilion for each of her lessons. Ms. Cole has been teaching the 2-4th graders the Problem Solving Steps as a part of the Second Step Curriculum. Last week students worked as a team to use the skills they've learned and complete different problem solving challenges. More info in the school newsletter.
Meeting Dates:
The WS School Board had planned to meet on April 13th, which is during vacation. They have rescheduled this virtual meeting for April 20th at 6:00 pm. They will send out an agenda and link on April 19th. You can always find the link and agenda on the school website. These meetings are open to the public.
The school board’s month meetings will continue as remote meetings until further notice and will occur the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm. The agenda and the link to each meeting is put out by the Superintendent prior to each meeting and can be found on the WSESU website and the school's website. These meetings are open to the public.
