Be Smart, Be Safe in Weathersfield Vermont November 9

Sunrise in early "stick" season

Biden Named President Elect

By now you've heard, former Vice President Joe Biden was named President Elect on Saturday afternoon. He and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris gave two speeches of unity and moving forward to a packed (masked and physically distanced) crowd in a parking lot in Wilmington, DE.

Biden said "My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken.
They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory. A victory for “We the People.”
We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation -- 74 million.
I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.
I pledge to be a President who seeks not to divide, but to unify. Who doesn’t see Red and Blue states, but a United States. And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of the whole people.
For that is what America is about: The people. And that is what our Administration will be about.
I sought this office to restore the soul of America. To rebuild the backbone of the nation -- the middle class. To make America respected around the world again and to unite us here at home."

There were celebrations around the United States and around the globe for the new USA Team. I found this on TV from Ireland (a land near and dear to my heart!) Joe Biden reads the words of Seamus Heaney.

DHMC Restricts Visitors

On Friday, the hospital system announced that no visitors will be admitted to a D-H facility for inpatient or outpatient visits, except in cases where patients require caregivers or for "pediatric patients, labor and delivery and prenatal patients, perioperative patients, family meetings, patients at the end of life, and D-H employees and volunteers."

The restrictions apply to all its facilities, and reflect "rapidly changing conditions relating to the COVID-19 pandemic," the hospital said in a press release.

How The Holidays Will Look This Year

In a community video last week, Dr. Josh White, chief medical officer at Gifford Medical Center, argued that rising case numbers make it easier for health officials to reinforce their stay-close-to-home message for the holidays.

VT is urging people to avoid holiday travel; so is Dartmouth for people who will be on campus after Thanksgiving.

Farmers are noting a demand for smaller turkeys from local growers, and calls to the King Arthur hotline on how to bake remotely with family are increasing.

And Speaking of Travel-Get Your Snow Tires SOON!

It's being reported by various news outlets that there may be a shortage in snow tires this winter so make your appointment soon and get those tires changed.

You know winter is coming even though we're enjoying these warm temperatures.

TRAVELING To/From VERMONT

ACCD Cross State Interactive Travel Map

Vermont Residents
Vermonters may travel outside of Vermont to counties across the Northeast including New England; New York; Pennsylvania; Ohio; New Jersey; Delaware; Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Virginia; and West Virginia that have a similar active COVID-19 caseload to Vermont (defined as less than 400 active cases per million) and return without quarantining if they do so in a personal vehicle.

Vermonters must remember to follow any travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for the states they plan to visit.

If they travel to a quarantine county or outside of the Northeast (including New England; New York; Pennsylvania; Ohio; New Jersey; Delaware; Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Virginia; and West Virginia), Vermonters will be required to quarantine in Vermont upon return. Read more about quarantining at the Vermont Department of Health website.

Essential Travel
People traveling for essential purposes, including work, do not need to quarantine. Essential travel includes travel for personal safety, medical care, care of others, parental shared custody, for food, beverage or medicine, to attend preK-12 school and college if commuting daily, or to perform work for businesses that are currently allowed to operate.

For more information about which businesses may operate and how they may operate, view the Work Safe Guidance. The current State of Emergency requires employers to use remote work and telework whenever possible to avoid unnecessary work travel. Businesses and employees must only travel for work related trips when absolutely necessary. Individuals engaged in a daily commute to and from their job are expressly exempt from the need to quarantine by Executive Order.

Persons should not travel to, from, or within Vermont if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if they meet the criteria for needing to Isolate or Quarantine.

Travel FAQs
