Weathersfield select board and town news: At the Sept. 4 select board meeting the members approved increasing the Land Use Administrator to a full-time position. The board voted to move $20, 212 from the fire services budget into the fire equipment reserve fund. This motion passed with John Arrison voting no. The board is moving forward in applying for the FEMA mitigation application for the Amsden Store property and has asked that John Broker-Campbell from regional Planning attend the Sept. 10 meeting. Also at the Sept. 17 meeting the town manager plans to explain a Municipal Fire Department option to the board. Weathersfield School news: The Weathersfield School Board is seeking a Weathersfield resident interested in serving on the 5-member Board as a result of a recent vacancy. It is the responsibility of the School Board to appoint a qualified person to fill this vacancy, which expires in March, 2020. Interested members of the Weathersfield community are invited to submit a letter of interest to serve as a Board member by Oct. 1. The Board will meet with applicants sometime in October, and will appoint the new member. 5th Annual Chiefs Classic Golf Tournament in Springfield, Sunday Sept. 23 at 8:30 a.m.. Ascutney Volunteer Fire Association is hosting our 5th Annual Chiefs Classic Golf Tournament. This is a scramble format golf tournament hosted at Crown Point Country Club which is a full 18 hole golf course. Registration 7:30am, start at 8;30 a.m.. 20-24 teams of four compete, $100 per player. Players will receive food at the Captains Coffee Corner during check in, hot dogs and sausages on the course, and Deputy's Dining appetizer buffet after the tournament along with players gifts.

Ascutney Outdoors Center Grand Opening in West Windsor, Sunday Sept. 23 1-8 p.m.. Activities 1-3 p.m. include: guided hike, nature flow yoga class, horseback trail ride, guided nature play for children, a guided mountain bike ride, or walk the property and see the new facilities. Dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Outdoors Center. Participants will have an opportunity to name the new T-bar lift. Live music until 8 p.m. featuring: Erik Boedtker, Johnny O, and the Rick Davis Band with Peter Zipfel. Bring a picnic or taste the Moonlighters famous fare for free (donations welcome but not required). Low cost spay/neuter clinics in Springfield. Springfield Humane Society is hosting low cost spay/neuter clinics in 2018: Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 27 at the Springfield Humane Society, on Route 143. Cost is $50 for female cat and $40 for male cat. Weathersfield residents may be reimbursed up to $50 for the surgery with a limit of three pets per year. Get your SNAP form from the town office. Senior Exercise Program in Ascutney: Free. Sponsored by RSVP. Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11 a.m. in basement of Martin Memorial Hall, Route 5, Ascutney. Classes are led by Sandy Lemois. If interested call 674-5254 for more information.

Twin State Depression Support Group in Weathersfield. Valley Court Diversion Programs: Volunteers are needed in Weathersfield/Springfield areas to work with low level offenders in the community. The group meets once a month at the Springfield Police Department, your commitment will require about three hours a month. Training is provided.
