Don't know about you but I'm excited about the "Touch A Truck" happening on Saturday at the Ascutney Village Market on Route 5. Details are listed below but let's just say there'll be lots of cool trucks to check out. I've attended many similar events like this around our area for the newspaper and it's always a blast watching the children explore these BIG vehicles. Even the adults have fun seeing the wreckers and fire trucks up close and personal. Fingers crossed for good weather.



News You Can Use

Weathersfield select board and town news: The town announced that the store at Downer's Four Corners is not selling transfer station tickets yet. Stop by the town office to buy your tickets or you may purchase, with a personal check only, a temporary 5-punch ticket at the transfer station. The select board was scheduled to meet on Aug. 20. The town is looking for volunteers to serve on various committees and commissions. If you are interested in serving the town please send a letter of intent to the town manager. Weathersfield School news: The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 30. The bus routes are posted on the school website: http://www.wsesu.net/news/2018/8/15/weathersfield-bus-routes. The school will be closed Sept. 3 for Labor Day. For more information, please call the school at 674-5400.

Adventures and Assignments

On Thursday we went to the Lebanon Recreation and Parks final Front Porch Concert of the season hosted by The Point FM Radio station. Lissie performed. We've seen her before and as soon as the concert was announced in the spring the date was on our calendar.

Touch-a-Truck and Family Day in Ascutney, Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 25. Featuring: fire trucks from AVFD, West Weathersfield, West Windsor, Windsor, the Weathersfield police cruiser, Golden Cross Ambulance, and SG Reed's BIG wrecker. Bob’s "Tommy and Friends Train" will be there for rides. AVFD offers child car seat safety checks. Vendors, chicken BBQ, bicycle safety program and face painting. Hosted by Ascutney Village Farmers Market, 5585 Route 5 in Ascutney.

Ongoing Events

Low cost spay/neuter clinics in Springfield. Springfield Humane Society is hosting low cost spay/neuter clinics in 2018: Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 27 at the Springfield Humane Society, on Route 143. Cost is $50 for female cat and $40 for male cat. Weathersfield residents may be reimbursed up to $50 for the surgery with a limit of three pets per year. Get your SNAP form from the town office. Senior Exercise Program in Ascutney: Free. Sponsored by RSVP. Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11 a.m. in basement of Martin Memorial Hall, Route 5, Ascutney. Classes are led by Sandy Lemois. If interested call 674-5254 for more information.

Twin State Depression Support Group in Weathersfield. Free peer-led Depression Support Groups to all, the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 6:30 pm, 5259 Route 5, Ascutney, VT (Martin Memorial Hall - downstairs) and the 4th Wednesday of each month, 6:30 pm, 7 Morgan Street, Springfield, VT (Turning Point) Both venues are accessible. Valley Court Diversion Programs: Volunteers are needed in Weathersfield/Springfield areas to work with low level offenders in the community. The group meets once a month at the Springfield Police Department, your commitment will require about three hours a month. Training is provided.
