Holy cow, school starts Thursday Sept. 1. That's next week. Where did this summer go? With school starting, remember to watch for kids crossing the streets and walking on the edges of the roadways. Also leave yourself time in the morning and afternoon as the school buses will be making their frequent stops all around town. In addition, next weekend is an event that the Library has been planning for months-Romaine Tenney: A Celebration of a Farmer's Life. The event details are listed below and it's shaping up to be a very cool, well attended FREE event in town-come check it out Saturday Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Weathersfield Proctor Library.

West Weathersfield Fire Department Saluted One of Their Own.


 West Weathersfield Fire Department News: Area fire departments came together Thursday, August 18 to salute Levi Parker, 21 of Springfield VT. Parker is a volunteer fire fighter with West Weathersfield Fire Department who has recently been diagnosed with acute anemia. The fire fighters in the West Weathersfield station put the call out to area fire companies to line Route 106 with fire trucks and rescue vehicles as Levi and his family made their way towards the interstate to head to Boston for a bone marrow transplant. About 20 fire trucks from fire stations as far away as Westminster, VT and Charlestown, NH line the road as Levi followed behind a police cruiser escort. The family will need to be in Boston for about a month while Levi undergoes treatment. West Weathersfield Fire has sold about 600 fundraising bracelets and will host a spaghetti dinner on Oct. 1 at the station in Perkinsville to raise money for the family's travel and medical costs. Anderson East closed out the Front Porch Concert Series in Lebanon NH on Thursday.

The concerts were sponsored by The Point FM, Lebanon Recreation and Parks and the Lebanon Opera House.

Weathersfield Parks and Recreation Guided Hikes continued on Saturday, Aug 20 with a trek up Little Ascutney. The 2.5 hour roundtrip adventure took hikers to the ledges, very near to the summit of Little Ascutney (1709 feet) on the Wildlife Area Management  land. The next hike is to the 1947 B-29 Bomber Crash Site and Tucker Trail Lookout in Perkinsville Sept. 17. Space is limited for this hike and no dogs allowed. Weathersfield Select Board News: The Board met Aug. 15. A letter with multiple signatures was presented for a dedicated left hand turn at Cemetery Road and Route 131. The Board approved replacing the Town Hall's Palladian window. There was discussion about how to build up and spend various reserve accounts. Town Manager, Ed Morris informed the Board that the Fire Commission seats are filled and the Commission will be begin review of the John Wood Report.  Paving of Amsden School Road was approved and Springfield Paving will begin work Oct. 1 at a cost of $61.59 per ton. Weathersfield Proctor Library News: Weathersfield Proctor Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of  Weathersfield Proctor Library are hosting an event to celebrate the life a Romaine Tenney, a Weathersfield Farmer, Saturday Sept. 3 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the library. Romaine grew up on a farm that was located where the overpass of Interstate 91 crosses Route 131. Romaine's story was written up in the March/April 2013 edition of Yankee Magazine. "Romaine Tenney Loved His Farm to Death" by Howard Mansfield. Their event will feature: The Sky Blue Boys (Banjo Dan) performing their song about Romaine Tenney and other music from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Speakers include: Howard Coffin, Neil Shepard, Chip Cobb, Mike Kamel and Antoinette Jacobson. Folks will be sharing their memories about the farm, the famous farmhouse and Weathersfield's native son. Refreshment will be served. This event is FREE and open to the public.

The News Behind The News: How Did the 2016 Election Get This Crazy?" A talk by Jane Mayer and Bill Hamilton in Weathersfield, Saturday, Aug. 27, 6:30 p.m. at the Weathersfield Meetinghouse on the Weathersfield Center Rd. This is a potluck supper fundraiser for the Friends of the Meetinghouse Steeple Belfry repair. A donation of $15 is suggested. Bring a dish to share.
