Weathersfield select board and town news: The select board met on June 4. Some of the items on their agenda included continued discussion of the cell tower in Ascutney, a presentation of the new town website, the proposed employee compensation plan, and the fire department matrix. Weathersfield School news: Grades close on June 8 and should be posted on June 13. Eighth grade graduation is Wednesday, June 13 at 7 p.m.. Last day of school is Monday, June 18 with early dismissal at 11:30 a.m.. For more information, please call the school at 674-5400.

Weathersfield Proctor Library news: The children's summer ready program kicks off on Thursday, June 20 with Meredith Holch-Stories That Move At The Turn of A Crank. The library will host an art show featuring photographs from the Newell Green collection on Friday, June 22. And the Trustees have announced an Open House for the newly expanded Children's Room for Saturday, June 23 10 a.m.-3 p.m.. I made the Boston Globe! We were at the Sox game on Monday, May 28.


I saw JAG Productions Lady Day at Emerson at the ArtisTree Grange Theatre in Pomfret on Friday, June 1. Great performance about Billie Holiday. Francesca Harper was superb.

Sunday, June 3 I was at the Covered Bridges Half Marathon, I'll be taking over for Bill Blaiklock who is retiring. I will be race co-director with Mike Silverman. Monday, June 4 I went to school. I attended the Albert Bridge School and Weathersfield School BBQ and Drumming Workshop at WS in Ascutney. The rain moved the BBQ picnic inside but the children and adults had a great time despite the weather.

Get Out and About Events

Summer Evening with Friends and Neighbors in Weathersfield July 28 6-9 p.m.. The Weathersfield Proctor Library Fund raising committee will host their annual event featuring a silent auction, desserts and appetizers, and music by Jenni Johnson and the Junketeers, who specialize in jazz, blues, and classic tunes. More details to come.

Backyard Composting in Reading, Thursday, June 14 6-7:30 p.m.. Southern Windsor/Windham Counties Solid Waste Management District is hosting a composting workshop at the Reading Town. The workshop will be led by Vermont Master Composter Cat Buxton. Workshop attendees may purchase a “Soil Saver” composter (one per household) for the heavily discounted price of $35 (suggested retail is $120) and a “Sure-Close” kitchen pail for $5. Low cost spay/neuter clinics in Springfield. Springfield Humane Society is hosting low cost spay/neuter clinics in 2018: July 10, Aug. 7, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 27 at the Springfield Humane Society, on Route 143. Cost is $50 for female cat and $40 for male cat. Weathersfield residents may be reimbursed up to $50 for the surgery with a limit of three pets per year. Get your SNAP form from the town office. Senior Exercise Program in Ascutney: Free. Sponsored by RSVP. Mondays and Wednesdays 10-11 a.m. in basement of Martin Memorial Hall, Route 5, Ascutney. Classes are led by Sandy Lemois. If interested call 674-5254 for more information.

Twin State Depression Support Group in Weathersfield. Valley Court Diversion Programs: Volunteers are needed in Weathersfield/Springfield areas to work with low level offenders in the community. The group meets once a month at the Springfield Police Department, your commitment will require about three hours a month. Training is provided.
