New Zealand-Untamed Landscapes 2016, our adventure begins
Traffic was pretty light, we dropped off the car and were shuttled to the airport. Check-in with United/Air New Zealand was uneventful. And by 11 a.m. I was sitting at the Legal Seafoods in Terminal B munching on Crab meat/avocado salad waiting for our 1:30 plane to Houston.
We flew to Houston, with an exit row seat-thank you Jay! We had a very long lay over in Houston (three plus hours) for our 14 hour flight to Auckland. Air New Zealand NZ29 (a triple 7) had regular sized seats that were really tight and Jay and I were in row 58 with D and E in a four seat row at the very back of the plane.
Food was good; beer and wine and water were offered throughout the flight, making it somewhat less painful. We tried to cat-nap most of the way but there were two screaming kids sitting in front of us and even my noise cancelling headphones couldn't block them out.
Let's recap, we left Vermont on Thursday, November 17 at 8 a.m. and arrived in Auckland (North Island), New Zealand Saturday, November 19 at 5:30 a.m. We walked from the International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal for our almost two hour flight to Queenstown on the South Island. Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be editing pictures and writing about my adventures in the "Adventure Capital of the World". Hopefully either my word or images will inspire you to make your way to one of the coolest places on earth!
