Lyle Lovett and His Large Band

Lyle Lovett and His Large Band opened the 2010 Champlain Valley Expo last night, August 28.

The "very" large band performed for close to two hours to a fairly good sized crowd. Ticket sales had been slow but by show time a crowd of couple thousand was in attendance. Lovett played a few from his new CD "Natural Forces" and also many old favorites including:
"I Will Rise Up"
"Up in Indiana"
"My Baby Don't Tolerate"
and my personal favorite "If I Had A Boat."

Nice way to start off the fair!

Rain Delay AGAIN

The Boston Red Sox played game three of a three game series Sunday August 22 against the Toronto Blues Jays. The game was delayed about two (2) hours because of rain then the umps. stopped the game in the third inning due to rain. This delay lasted about one hour.

Clay Buchholz

Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was masterful, hit pitched 6 innings, giving up only 5 hits, no runs, with 7 strike-outs and only 3 walks.

Buchholz had help  from Daniel Bard and Felix Doubront and run support from Bill Hall, Adrian Beltre, Big Papi, Marco Scutaro and Ryan Kalish.

Ah, the dog days of Summer!!
Clay Buchholz
August 1 found Photos by Nanci at Fenway parking watching the Boston Red Sox taking on the Detroit Tigers. Damon wasn't playing, Ordonez wasn't playing but it was still a close game until Scutaro hit a bunt walk off RBI--WHAT??

Hey Mama, Featuring Avi and Celia
Every summer the Lebanon Rec Department host the Front Porch Music series that is sponsored by my favorite radio station THE POINT FM and on August 8 the series brought HEY MAMA, featuring Avi and Celia to the Green in Lebanon NH.

Shelby Lynne
August 6 found Photos by Nanci at one of her favorite venues to see/hear live music TUPELO MUSIC HALL in Londonderry NH. Scott Hayward runs a great place here and he's opening a Tupelo White River VT in October!! THANK YOU SCOTT!! Anyway back to August 6, Shelby Lynne was at Tupelo; heard her recently on a duet with Peter Wolf on his new CD and thought I should check this woman out. She may be small but she is a powerhouse musician!

Something new for Photos by Nanci happened the weekend of August 7-8 at Storrs Pond in Hanover NH. The Stoaked Off Road Triathlon. I was asked by the race director to take photos of the events of the weekend and who knew photographing something other than concerts could be so much fun!!

Lots more photos from the weekend are posted on my website Stoaked Tri Photos with some special pricing for the racers to purchase photos of themselves.

And speaking of pricing, I've updated my prices and ways of payment, Photos by Nanci now uses PayPal! Check out the new pricing schedule on my page: My Fees

August 12 we returned to Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion for Colbie Caillat and Sheryl Crow.
Colbie Caillat

I'd heard many of Colbie's songs on the POINT FM radio station so I knew she had a sweet voice but I was WOW'd by her stage presence. She put on a very good show!

Sheryl Crow
The last time I saw Sheryl Crow was at Riley Rink in Manchester NH for her "C'mon, C'mon" CD tour. So it's been a while. She's looking a little older but having two kids under four will do that to you. She may be sleep deprived from the kids but her vocals and stage energy are definitely not suffering from her role as mom!

Doyle Bramhall II

She also has Doyle Bramhall II on tour with her. He's awesome!

Sean Bones
The first couple of weeks of August ended with an epic show by one of Vermont's  own--Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. They played at the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival on the Waterfront in Burlington VT on August 14. The show opened with Sean Bones. We saw him back up GPN and Brett Dennen at the House Blues in Boston MA back in November 2009.

Photos Posted in July: Meat Loaf, Melissa Etheridge, Cheap Trick, Squeeze, Heart.....

July was one HOT month for concerts for Photos By Nanci. We rocked into the July 4th weekend seeing Meat Loaf at the Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, NH. This is a great venue to see shows at easy in, easy parking, easy out and some pretty great acts get booked there every year!

Meat Loaf opened his Hang Cool Teddy Bear Tour in NH and for a "sexty" something rocker he still has it. Lisa Bouchelle opened and it was quite a HOT SUMMER night for music at Meadowbrook!

Closer to home, the Lebanon Rec. Department hosts the Front Porch music series which is sponsored by my favorite radio station, THE POINT FM. Our first show this summer was The Ryan Montbleau on July 8. After speaking with Ryan, I found out his home town is right next to my home town so we yakked a while about life in the Suburbs...the show was really good and I hope to catch Ryan and Band again soon, the 20-somethings in the crowd were totally into him!!

A show I've been waiting to see for awhile came to the Wang Center in Boston MA on July 10. After a nice lobster sandwich for dinner with a couple of friends we made our way to the Wang to see Melissa Etheridge and her new band! I've been following Melissa since the 80s and have seen her many times so I was very excited to be seeing her again. I even really enjoyed her new band (I'm a big fan of Phillip Sayce and Marc Browne--they are no longer with her.) The show was great and Melissa is looking good!!

My show review is on this blog at:

Barely recovering from Melissa performance, I went to Keene NH to see one of my favorite folk singers and composers--Anais Mitchell. She was performing at Armadillo's Burrito Shop in downtown Keene and I figured what the heck, it's Anais--it'll be great and it WAS!!

Anais was joined by Jefferson Hamer, whom she is recording a CD with now of traditional ballads.

Also appearing that evening with Anais and Jeff were Mike and Ruthy. I'd never heard of them before but the are awesome!

Together the four of them took turns playing in a round robin fashion and it turned out to be a great night of music and it was close to home!!

My show review is posted here at:

Reggae came to the hills of Vermont from the streets of Jamiaca, mon!! On July 16, Pentangle Council for the Arts hosted Jimmy Cliff, The Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars and Trevor Hall at the Suicide Six Ski area in Pomfret VT. What a show this was. I saw Jimmy Cliff way back in the 80s at UMASS-Amherst ( Photos) and loved him then. Now thirty years later he's still spreading love and peace through music!!
More photos from the three bands and the crowd are on my page:

I must say Trevor Hall was a HUGE hit....

And speaking of the 80s...we went back to Meadowbrook in Gilford NH to see Cheap Trick and Squeeze!!
On July 17, the co-touring Cheap Trick and Squeeze played at the US Cellular Pavilion. Each band played about 75 minutes with Squeeze opening and Cheap Trick blowing the crowd away with their hits: "I Want You to Want Me", "Surrender", "California Man" and my fav. "Heaven Tonight". Felt like I was back in college!!

Back to the Front Porch Music Series on July 22, Red Molly played the Gazebo on the Lebanon Green, they are a trio of women who play guitar, banjo and dobro. They performed original songs an covers by Woodie Guthrie, Randy Weeks and Lucinda Williams.

More photos from the show and the crowd are on my page:

The July Concert Month ended for Photos by Nanci on a HUGE high note from the voice of none other than the GREAT Ms. Ann Wilson!!

HEART at Meadowbrook!!!

The Wilson sister are getting on in years (it's just a number right) but you couldn't tell by their performance at Meadowbrook in Gilford, NH on July 30. Ann still has the pipes and Nancy still has the guitar slinger moves!!!

More photos from this show are on my page:

What a way to close the month of July--my ears were still ringing four days after this show!!!

Photos Posted in June: Grace Potter, Buffett, Blues Traveler...

Busy month of June for Photos By Nanci.

Summer concerts kicked off with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals performing on Church Street in Burlington VT on the day their third CD was released June 8. The CD is entitled "Grace Potter and the Nocturnals" and is on sale everywhere and doing well in the charts! Photos from the event are on my page:

Child and Family Services of NH hosted their Concerts for the Cause series featuring Big Head Todd and the Monsters at the Palace Theater in Manchester NH, Adam Ezra opened on June 13. Photos from the event are posted on my page:

I was very impressed with Adam and I hope to catch him with his full band sometime very soon!! The new CD from BHT sounds good and the live performance was right on with the crowd there to support CFSNH!!
Perennial summer favorites, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer band sailed into the Comcast Center/Great Woods for two shows in June. I attended the June 17th show. It was nice seeing all the Coral Reefers again pre-show and hanging with Ms. Tina Gullickson it's been a while. The show was good and fairly energetic for Buffett and Charleston the Body Guard let me shoot through the whole show with my little canon point-and-shoot so that was good!!

Thanks to an invite from Kasia B. we attended the Quechee Balloon Festival in Quechee VT on opening night June 18. The balloons were very colorful and the weather was perfect!

The Boston Red Sox played the LA Dodgers on June19 and were lucky enough to have great seats to see the Dustin Pedoria walk off RBI scoring Nava. The team celebration took place right in front of us!

The final concert for the Lebanon Opera House Spring season was one with Blues Traveler. I've listened to this band for a long time and never had the chance to see them live. It was a cool time. Best parts were seeing John Popper sneak cigarettes on stage-you don't see that much any more...

There were three bands that night: The Steve Palmer Band, the Luke Mulholland Band and Blues Traveler. The photos are posted on my page:
