Fire Destroys Perkinsville Lumber Mill

Image
August 11, 2014 Perkinsville Vermont The exterior of the Sheehan and Sons lumber mill on Stoughton Pond Road does not appear damaged from Sunday night's fire, but fire officials say there is extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the building. A three alarm fire broke out and crews were called around 8 p.m. Sunday night after someone noticed smoke coming from the structure. Dispatchers said at least 10 departments were called from around the area to the fire. Around 50 firefighters were on scene. The Weathersfield fire chief , Darrin Spaulding, said there was heavy fire and smoke in a back corner where a loader had been on a battery charger. The chief said they had the fire out within the first 45 minutes, but smoke and heat had damaged much of the building. He said heavy smoke and gas, and several heavy doors, made it hard to vent the building. He said that took several hours. The charger may have shorted, but investigators are still working out ...

Thursday August 7, 2014 Westgate RD West Windsor Vermont Lauston Stephens was heading south on Westgate RD in West Windsor on Thursday morning when he was he encountered a Cota and Cota Oil truck heading north. To avoid clipping the truck, Stephens turned into the ditch and got stuck in the mud. Roy Seymour from Earles Truck Repair in Rutland was called to pull the truck out. West Windsor volunteer Fire Fighter, David Jaacks responded to the emergency call. The road was closed for about one hour. The truck's diesel tank remained intact and appeared solid upon inspection. No injuries were reported and when Stephens checked his cargo he said everything looked ready for delivery. Neighbors are speculating that Westgate Road is being used to avoid going all the way around Ascutney Mountain while the bridge on Rte 44 west of Brownsville is closed for repairs. Sunrise, Moon Set, Super Moon, Perseid Meteors, What a Celestial Week!

Image
August 10-12, 2014 Weathersfield Vermont What a spectacular morning. Moon set and Sunrise on both ends of the field! Sunday night, Jay and I hiked up into a neighbors hay field and patiently waited for the moon to rise. I hope you all had a chance to catch this Super Moon. The full moon on August 10 just happened to be full when the moon reached its closest point to Earth in its orbit. This supermoon was only 356,896 kilometers or 221,765 miles away from us. If you missed it there will be another super moon on September 9 at 1:38 UTC. The following morning Riley, the wonder dog , and I hiked back to this field. We were treated to the most amazing sunrise.
