Key West Adventure-Stock Island, Todd Snider East Martello night 2

Image
January 23, Stock Island and Todd Snider After breakfast, Jay and I decide to walk to Stock Island. It's about an hour walk to the Hogfish Bar and Grill . We've heard so much about this place, we had to check it out before we leave Key West. We walk along South Roosevelt  and turn onto US1. On one side of the bridge there are mangroves and the Atlantic Ocean. On the other side is the Gulf. Walking along the Overseas Highway and along some of the side streets, we notice that someone on Stock Island is a very talented muralist. At Boyd's Campground we turn onto 4th Street, then Front Street and we're finally there. I imagine this is what the Shrimper bars looked like in Key West before it became a tourist/Parrothead destination. We both ordered the "Killer Hogfish Sandwich". OMG was it ever good. We walk back to the hotel-a little more slowly with the yummy sandwich in our tummies. If you arrive by car, this colorful sign greets you. And requests you "Come...

Key West Adventure-Sunrise, Moon Set, Todd Snider at East Martello night 1

January 22, Sunrise, Moon Set, Todd Snider at East Martello Our time in Key West is winding down but not before a couple of Todd Snider concerts!  First I start this Saturday off with a stroll to the beach. I look up and there's this beautiful moon set behind a palm tree. I head to my favorite spot on the seawall and wait for the sunrise. It doesn't look too good but I hang in there. I start talking with a guy also watching the sunrise but he's doing it with a Corona! We strike up a conversation and he's going to the two Todd shows too. We talk weather, Key West and Todd Snider. The sky is all kind of colorful pastels. Our waiting paid off. But it's very red-should I take warning? Michael asks if I think it will rain tonight and I check the radar on my phone-it doesn't look good. But it's not -8 like it is back home in Vermont. I head back to the room, quick shower and it's off to breakfast with Jay. On our way back to the room, the Ibis are enjoying th...

Key West Adventure-Sunrise and Blue Heaven Lunch

Image
January 21 Sunrise and Blue Heaven Up a 6 a.m. without an alarm. I do some stretching and check emails. Then grab my camera and head outside around 6:50 a.m. to catch the sunrise. While waiting I watched a few fish jumping and a brown pelican fishing. The sunrise was pretty spectacular today. I meet Jay back at the room, and we head to breakfast (more make your own waffles!!).  Then it’s a walk to downtown via Smather’s Beach. It feels a lot more humid today. it really feels like a beach day. Pretty soon we’re sweating. The beach at this hour is pretty empty, just a few others walking the beach. I stop to take a few photos-either some had or was having a beach wedding. I even found a bouquet of flowers. We stop for a rest at Dog Beach and watch the puppies playing in the surf. These two were chasing rocks and coral pieces. So sad, no tennis balls to chase.   The Southernmost Regatta 2022 is still going on so we watch them for a little while too. Still have no idea how a regatt...
