  Tuesday, October 25, 2022 Iceland-East Fjords, Djúpivogur, Waterfalls, Geothermal Field, Mývatn We're up early for breakfast at the Hótel Framtíð  which is located in the small fishing village of Djúpivogur. The rainy October weather has finally caught up with us.  But the forecast looks good after today. We drive around the peninsula and see some of the salmon fish pens. We're also treated to a couple of seals, who look just as interested in us as we are of them. John Paul, our Nordic Visitor guide, tells us we are in the oldest part of Iceland. Rocks have been dated to 18 million years ago. Our first stop is at Nykurhylsfoss that is also called Sveinsstekksfoss or even Fossárdafoss. It's a hidden waterfall on the Fossá river in the area of Fossárdalur in the eastern part of Iceland outside of Djúpivogur. Local legends say that there is a petrified troll woman here at the falls. Diamond Beach Monday, October 24, 2022 The Ring Road-Glaciers, Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, The East Fjord Town Djúpivogur If the views from our hotel in Kirkjubæjarklaustur are any indication, we're going to see a lot of glaciers today. Our first stop is a photo op at a private waterfall. Dverghamrar , Dwarf Cliffs Sort of across The Ring Road is our next stop-The Dwarf Cliffs. Dverghamrar , an Icelandic toponym literally meaning in French "the dwarf's cliffs", a set of basalt organ-like columns northeast of the town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.  At the end of the ice age, sea erosion created these columns. Iceland's Glaciers Vatnajökull National Park Back in the van we are treated to stunning views of  Öræfajökull . Öræfajökull translated means 'Öræfi glacier' or 'wasteland glacier' is an ice-covered volcano in south-east Iceland.
