A Day at The Taronga Zoo, Aussie Adventure Continues Day 5

February 9, 2017
Sydney, Australia

The rain woke me up again, it was coming down pretty heavy at 1:45 a.m.. I toss and turn for a few hours and finally give up at 5 a.m. I uploaded a few video clips from the Springsteen show on Tuesday night while waiting for Jay to wake up.

Around 7 a.m. the skies look to be clearing. I think it may be turning into a beautiful day. We quickly do coffee, showers, and breakfast. We walk to Circular Quay to catch the ferry to the zoo. It's pretty hot and humid but it's supposed to be even hotter, Friday, Saturday and Sunday like 100 F. We heard that if it's really hot it's hard to see some of the animals at the zoo. They seek shade and don't like to move around just like humans.

With our early start, I think we'll be OK.

Oh my, as we get closer to the wharf, there is one BIG A** Cruise ship in Harbour today...hopefully they haven't dumped their passengers yet. The Ovation on the Seas is the 4th largest cruise ship in the world. It has a gross tonnage of 168,666 and a length of 1,141 feet. And man, oh man is it UGLY.

On the ferry ride out we see some pretty cool things like the Bridge and the Opera House.

And the Sydney skyline.

We walk up a little hill and take a little gondola further up the hill to the zoo entrance. You basically wind your way back down the hill to the ferry landing. Pretty well planned out.

Once inside we are treated to some pretty awesome animals.

We're allowed into the spider monkey and ring-tailed lemurs enclosures to hang with them quietly for about 5 minutes. It's a chance to get an up close view of their group behavior.

We see a Cassowary. Looks kind of prehistoric to me.

Some really weird reptiles.

A Komodo dragon, which I've been fascinated with since 6th grade when I wrote a report on these interesting creaturs.

And we get to watch a silver back watching us. He looked quite hot too.

Back to the ferry and back to Circular Quay. On the way back we see some people on top of The Bridge-they are crazy but in this heat-they are insane.

Dripping with sweat we make our way up Argyle Street to the Lord Nelson, we shower and change. We hop downstairs for an early dinner before we head over to Qudos Bank Arena for night 2 of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Next up-Night 2 Review!  BRUUUUUCE!
