Reading VT

Just when you thought the 4th of July Parades were over, Reading VT hosts its Annual Old Home Day-the day after the 4th. The town comes together to host a flea market, a parade, a chicken BBQ, an ox pull and the much anticipated Duck Derby. The theme this year was "Wild West." There were floats from the Reading Library, The Reading Greenhouse (First Place), R.A.T.S.-Reading All Terrain Sportmans Club (which won the Judges Prize), Top of the World 4H Club (Second Place) and more floats. There were tractors and antique cars and Sinai Joe's Clown Unit and Fire Trucks. Lots of Fire Trucks.

Following the parade folks started lining up for the Chicken BBQ; 500 chickens were cooked and the meal included cole slaw, potato salad, roll, watermelon, and a drink. All proceeds going to the Reading Fire Department.

The day continued down the street with the 24th Annual Fire Department Ox Pull. Ox teams from Vermont and New Hampshire were competing.

The fun didn't stop there. The Annual Duck Derby happened at 2 p.m.. Some folks gathered on the snowmobile bridge to watch the launch and cheer on their ducks. The event sold out for the third year in a row. 500 lucky ducks tickets sold out (the fastest sell out to date!) with proceeds benefiting the Reading Friends and Neighbors Community Foundation.

If this day doesn't say Vermont, I don't know what does!
