Woodstock VT

If it's the first weekend in March it must be time for Woodstock VT to welcome Special Olympics Vermont to town. Home base for the weekend is the Woodstock Inn and Resort. The Inn opens its doors to the athletes, their coaches and the athletes families. The Winter Games competition takes place at Suicide Six Ski Area in neighboring Pomfret.

Friday night Governor Peter Shumlin hosted a reception prior to the Opening Ceremony held on the Woodstock Green.

Athlete Ambassador, Seah Fahey spoke to the standing room only crowd about his experiences as an athlete and what the games mean to him.
The Governor spoke about having dyslexia as a child and how one teacher took him aside and taught him how to read.
After the Governor left to officially open the games, a lively auction took place to benefit Special Olympics Vermont. Prizes included Red Sox Green Monster Tickets, a Boston Bruins Ticket Package, a New England Patriots Home Opener package and lots more sports related prizes.
