The exterior of the Sheehan and Sons lumber mill on Stoughton Pond Road does not appear damaged from Sunday night's fire, but fire officials say there is extensive smoke and heat damage throughout the building. A three alarm fire broke out and crews were called around 8 p.m. Sunday night after someone noticed smoke coming from the structure. Dispatchers said at least 10 departments were called from around the area to the fire. Around 50 firefighters were on scene.
The Weathersfield fire chief , Darrin Spaulding, said there was heavy fire and smoke in a back corner where a loader had been on a battery charger.

The chief said they had the fire out within the first 45 minutes, but smoke and heat had damaged much of the building. He said heavy smoke and gas, and several heavy doors, made it hard to vent the building. He said that took several hours.
The charger may have shorted, but investigators are still working out the exact cause. Officials say the metal structure was the main reason the fire did not spread throughout the mill. Ten years ago, fire destroyed the previous mill on this property.

The fire is not considered suspicious right now. No injuries were reported.
