The Reading Elementary School (RES) Parent Teachers Organization (PTO) hosted a Back to School BBQ on Sunday at the school. Burgers and dogs were provided and parents and grandparents were asked to bring a potluck dish to share. It was a way to welcome the students back to their school and to get some of the kindergarteners used to the playground and cafeteria. Some returning teachers were on hand as well as the new school Principal Zooey Zullo from Hartland and new PE teacher (and Circus Arts Instructor) Christine Landon from Rutland. Paint It Forward-Old Fashioned House Painting Party In West Windsor Vermont

Image
August 22, 2014 West Windsor VT This past weekend folks gathered at the Stillson Farm in West Windsor for an old fashioned 'help your neighbor' house painting party. Bill Stillson, long time resident of West Windsor gives so much of his time to various town and area groups and organizations that one group, The Vermont 50 Mountain Bike or Ultra Run  appealed to folks to come and paint Bill's house. As Stillson said "I can't believe how quickly we got this painted. Many hands make light work!" Juniper Hill Inn Sold at Foreclosure Auction.

Image
August 22, 2014 Windsor VT The historic Juniper Hill Farm - Maxwell Evarts House (now known as Juniper Hill Inn) located in Windsor, Vermont, was auctioned by the Thomas Hirchak Company on Friday. About twenty people attended the auction, however there were only four registered bidders. Auctioneer Tom Hirchak opened the bidding at 11:00 a.m. at $1 million dollars. He immediately lowered the bid to $500,000, then $400,000; he finally received an opening bid from Brad Cushing of Salisbury, VT of $100,000. Bidding reached $260,000 and was suspended when the auctioneers needed to consult with their clients. At this point the Attorney for U.S. Bank National Association, Howard Myers of Lebanon NH said the bank was willing to bid $350,000. No bidders met this bid and the Auctioneer Hirchak asked for the final bank offering which was $405,000. U.S. Bank National Association now owns the property and can list it for sale at any price, even for a profit. Myers said it is a lovely proper

Weathersfield Vermont August 20, 2014 Nancy Nutile-McMenemy photosbynanci@comcast.net Copyright © Nancy Nutile-McMenemy www.photosbynanci.com Where has the summer gone? There is a crispness in air that usually takes hold in September, it seems like it's a bit early this year. I look at the calendar and I see there is a Primary Vote on Aug.26! (I guess that means the political season will be creeping into our lives just like the fall weather.) School starts on Aug. 27. YIKES! And Labor Day is less than two weeks away. With this turn in the weather I have been thinking about our long winter months so on Sunday I started putting up food. Freezer pickles and pesto took up most of the day but will be a welcome meal come December. We are picking salad tomatoes, zucchini and summer squash. We found a hidden zucchini and you know what that means-baseball bat! Most of our blueberries are gone by but the blackberries are ripening now; the bags of frozen berries are piling up
