Good Music Rolling Through Lebanon Opera House!

Lebanon NH
June 2014

The nights of June have been steaming with some very HOT music provided by Lebanon Opera House.
On Friday the 13th, rather than being an unlucky day, a huge crowd of Upper Valley Folk Rock enthusiasts filled the opera house and were lucky to hear the legendary Patty Griffin perform.
Griffin grew up in Maine but has spent time in Florida and Boston. She played many of the coffee houses in Boston in the early 90's and cut a demo, which finally reached A&M records. "Living With Ghosts" was released. She followed this up with 'Flaming Red" in 1998. Her acoustic album "1,000 Kisses" followed four years later. Her latest release "American Kid" dropped last year and debuted at 36 on the Billboard Top 2000!

Opening for Griffin was Parker Millsap. An Oklahoma native brought up in the Pentecostal Church, which has since departed from. He is a very talented 20 year old and after hearing him perform songs from his self titled album, I am now a follower. On stage with him were high school buddy Michael Rose on bass and fiddle player Daniel Foulks.

This past Tuesday evening,  Hot Tuna returned to the Opera house for their seventh performance in this historic building.
Jack Cassady and Jorma Kaukonen played a 90 minute set. Back in the sixties, the two helped create the unique sound that was The Jefferson Airplane. The audience of loyal fans reflected these "hippie days" in their attitudes and attire.

The music legend Leon Russell took the stage after Hot Tuna and had folks rocking in the aisles.
Born in southwest Oklahoma in 1942, he started playing piano at the age of 4. He was tickling the ivories at the age of 14 in many Tulsa nightclubs. After high school Leon's band The Starlighters toured with Jerry Lee Lewis. He left Tulsa at the age of 17 and headed to L.A. where he became of the best sessions musicians in Hollywood. He recently released an album with Elton John "The Union", which was one of the best received album ever by Rolling Stone magazine.

June is not over yet for the Opera House shows!  Next up is Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams (with Special Guest Kenneth Brian Band) is returning to Lebanon NH next Tuesday. See the Preview By David Corriveau, Valley News Staff Writer in the Valley News on stands today!
Her 1988 self titled album has been re-released for its 25th Anniversary. The album has been out of print for 10 years. The package includes a remastered album along with a bonus disk containing an unreleased 1989 concert in Eindhoven, Netherlands, never before seen photos, and two new sets of liner notes. Should be a stellar show! Tickets are still on sale for the June 25th Wednesday night performance, TICKETS.
