Vermont Special Olympics Winter Games THIS Weekend!!!

For the seventh year in a row, Vermont Special Winter Olympics will be held this weekend at The Woodstock Inn and Resort and Suicide Six Ski Area in Pomfret Vermont.

The Games officially open Friday night on the Woodstock Green at 7 pm. Governor Peter Shumlin is expected to he on hand; just prior to this opening event there will be a reception at the Woodstock Inn and Resort from 5-7 pm.

The Opening Ceremony includes a parade of the athletes, the passing of the torch and fireworks on Mt. Tom, coordinated by the Woodstock Rotary.

Special Olympics Vermont’s Winter Games is truly a highlight among our competitions. This annual three-day competition takes place in historic Woodstock, Vermont where hundreds of members from the community join together to make the experience ever-lasting for all involved. The competition kicks off on Friday with our School Unified Sports snowshoeing competition. On Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Woodstock Town Hall we hold our official Opening Ceremonies. We announce each delegation that will be competing and will hear a few words from some very special guests. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, our athletes compete in four winter sports: Snowboarding. Snowshoeing, Alpine Skiing, and Cross-Country Skiing.
Weekend Event Schedule:
Friday March 7
School Unified Snowshoe
10 am-noon  and 1-4 pm, about 250 athletes from 14 school will be competing.

Annual Banquet and The Dance:
The Annual Awards Banquet takes place at the Woodstock Inn Saturday March 8 from 5:30-7 pm. There will be a coaches meeting from 7-7:15 pm and then its time to put on your dancing shoes!! 
From 7-9 pm the Annual Victory Dance kicks in!

Theme this year is St. Patrick's Day

12;30-1:30 pm There will be BBQ Lunch and families welcome
