Photos Posted in July: Meat Loaf, Melissa Etheridge, Cheap Trick, Squeeze, Heart.....

July was one HOT month for concerts for Photos By Nanci. We rocked into the July 4th weekend seeing Meat Loaf at the Meadowbrook US Cellular Pavilion in Gilford, NH. This is a great venue to see shows at easy in, easy parking, easy out and some pretty great acts get booked there every year!

Meat Loaf opened his Hang Cool Teddy Bear Tour in NH and for a "sexty" something rocker he still has it. Lisa Bouchelle opened and it was quite a HOT SUMMER night for music at Meadowbrook!

Closer to home, the Lebanon Rec. Department hosts the Front Porch music series which is sponsored by my favorite radio station, THE POINT FM. Our first show this summer was The Ryan Montbleau on July 8. After speaking with Ryan, I found out his home town is right next to my home town so we yakked a while about life in the Suburbs...the show was really good and I hope to catch Ryan and Band again soon, the 20-somethings in the crowd were totally into him!!

A show I've been waiting to see for awhile came to the Wang Center in Boston MA on July 10. After a nice lobster sandwich for dinner with a couple of friends we made our way to the Wang to see Melissa Etheridge and her new band! I've been following Melissa since the 80s and have seen her many times so I was very excited to be seeing her again. I even really enjoyed her new band (I'm a big fan of Phillip Sayce and Marc Browne--they are no longer with her.) The show was great and Melissa is looking good!!

Barely recovering from Melissa performance, I went to Keene NH to see one of my favorite folk singers and composers--Anais Mitchell. She was performing at Armadillo's Burrito Shop in downtown Keene and I figured what the heck, it's Anais--it'll be great and it WAS!!

Anais was joined by Jefferson Hamer, whom she is recording a CD with now of traditional ballads.

Also appearing that evening with Anais and Jeff were Mike and Ruthy. I'd never heard of them before but the are awesome!

Together the four of them took turns playing in a round robin fashion and it turned out to be a great night of music and it was close to home!!

Reggae came to the hills of Vermont from the streets of Jamiaca, mon!! On July 16, Pentangle Council for the Arts hosted Jimmy Cliff, The Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars and Trevor Hall at the Suicide Six Ski area in Pomfret VT. What a show this was. I saw Jimmy Cliff way back in the 80s at UMASS-Amherst ( Photos) and loved him then. Now thirty years later he's still spreading love and peace through music!!

I must say Trevor Hall was a HUGE hit....

And speaking of the 80s...we went back to Meadowbrook in Gilford NH to see Cheap Trick and Squeeze!!
On July 17, the co-touring Cheap Trick and Squeeze played at the US Cellular Pavilion. Each band played about 75 minutes with Squeeze opening and Cheap Trick blowing the crowd away with their hits: "I Want You to Want Me", "Surrender", "California Man" and my fav. "Heaven Tonight". Felt like I was back in college!!

Back to the Front Porch Music Series on July 22, Red Molly played the Gazebo on the Lebanon Green, they are a trio of women who play guitar, banjo and dobro. They performed original songs an covers by Woodie Guthrie, Randy Weeks and Lucinda Williams.

The July Concert Month ended for Photos by Nanci on a HUGE high note from the voice of none other than the GREAT Ms. Ann Wilson!!

HEART at Meadowbrook!!!

The Wilson sister are getting on in years (it's just a number right) but you couldn't tell by their performance at Meadowbrook in Gilford, NH on July 30. Ann still has the pipes and Nancy still has the guitar slinger moves!!!
