Grace for Haiti Concert review

Grace For Haiti Big Picture Theater Waitsfield , VT February 15, 2010 Waitsfield resident Grace Potter, of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, performed a benefit for Amurtel’s disaster relief in Haiti . Just over one month ago a magnitude 7.0 earthquake tore apart the Haitian capital, Port au Prince and left over 230,000 dead, 300,000 injured and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless. Joani Zweig of Amurtel reported that the “Grace for Haiti ” show raised over $10,000 for Haitian relief. Zweig told the audience of 225 that Amurtel has had a presence in Haiti for the last 18 years; they were on the ground when the earthquake hit. “I have never seen any amount of devastation that I have seen after the quake in Port au Prince” Zweig told the crowd. She explained that Amurtel has two teams in the Haitian capital: one short term group for distributing food, water and medical supplies and a second long term group for recovery and “what’s next.” She said the “next” is really critic

Guitar Night WOWs Opera House Audience

Concert Review International Guitar Night Lebanon Opera House , Lebanon NH February 13, 2010 Having seen a lot of bands with a lot of talented guitar players, I wasn ’t expecting to be WOW’d by these four men Saturday night at the Lebanon Opera House. International Guitar Night rolled into the opera house a show that was sponsored by the local eatery, Three Tomatoes . The festival was founded 10 years ago by Brian Gore. The current tour ended Saturday in Lebanon NH after spending one month in the UK , one month in Canada and one month in the US . The concert opened with Gore and his composition “Fringe Hinge ” after which he explained to the intimate audience was played using a Spider Capo that allows a guitarist to tune each individual string. He followed this melody up with “Behind the Blinds.” He then introduced Israeli classically trained musician and composer, Itamar Erez . TriStar (now Columbia) has signed on Katherine Heigl to play the part of Stephanie Plum in the movie of One For the Money . We are not involved in the casting process, but if we hear of any other actors being signed on we will post the news ASAP. There is no word yet on when the movie might go into actual production. Show Review-Marc Cohn and Suzanne Vega-Together Lebanon Opera House Lebanon , NH February 5, 2010 Marc Cohn and Suzanne Vega co-headlined a show Friday evening February 5, 2010 at the Lebanon Opera House in Lebanon NH . The two each performed for 75 minutes with a brief intermission between the sets. Suzanne Vega opened. She highlighted many of the new songs on her soon to be released CD (on her own label Suzanne Vega Amanuensis Productions): “Caramel”, “Marlene on the Wall”, “(I’ll Never Be) Your Maggie May”-which she prefaced with a story about the Rod Stewart song Maggie May, saying what ever did happen to Maggie May? Her set included two of Vega's most popular songs (both from her second album Solitude Standing, 1987): "Luka" and "Tom's Diner. A Winter Warm-Up Presented by The Upper Valley Community Band January 30, 2010 Lebanon Opera House , Lebanon NH On a very cold Saturday night the Upper Valley Co mmunity Band presented its “A Winter Warm-Up at the Lebanon Opera House, Lebanon NH . The 70 + piece band, composed of people from all over the Upper Valley and points beyond, under the able direction of Carole Blake and Assistant Director Cynthia Boehm-Patenaude, performed for some brave souls who ventured out on a cold winter’s night to hear a little music. The group opened with “Star Spangled Banner” and continued on for over 1.5 hours (with a 15 minute intermission) performing tunes ranging from Sousa to Strauss. The selections included songs from “West Side Story” directed by guest conductor, Ralph Bowie. Also included was a “Salute to Bob Hope”, a selection of tunes from his “On the Road” movies, which was quite snappy and entertaining. The group closed with some signature Big Band tune
